-- Orlando police unveiled a new weapon against drivers with radar detectors Tuesday, according to Local 6 News.

A new laser speed gun now being used by Orlando police officers is more accurate and easier to use than other speed guns, Local 6 News reported.

"With the laser you just pull the trigger and it gives you the exact speed for a particular vehicle," Orlando police officer Dirk Merk said.

Twenty motorcycle and patrol officers will be getting the laser guns.

"With this instrument I could actually just chose one vehicle and focus on that one, "Orlando officer Rudolf Wilson said.

After a deadly driving year, police hope the device slow speeders.

"Speed is the cause, in my opinion, of about 80 to 90 percent of the accidents, Orlando Police Capt. Eugenio Bernal said. "And if it is not a cause it is certainly a contributor."

The laser guns cost more than $2,000 each.
